Who I Am, Part 1

I’m busy Martha
Preparing the best
Distracting myself
From finding true rest

I’m James, and John too
Wanting to be first
I am insecure
And greedy at worst

I’m the well woman
Thirsty and alone
Numbing my aching
But dry as a bone

I’m the prodigal
Wasting my treasure
Scared to travel home
I am a beggar

I’m foolish Sarah
Laughing in contempt
At delayed promise
My cause for lament

I’m the woman caught
Naked and afraid
Waiting to be stoned
Nothing hides my shame

I’m scheming Judas
Betraying my lips
Hiding and mourning
What I sold with a kiss

I’m lying Peter
Denying my faith
I want to speak truth
Please give me some grace

I’m garden Mary
Searching for Jesus
Asking “Where is he?”
My heart is grievous

I’m doubting Thomas
I want to believe
But I need some proof
Let me touch and see
