I’ve been watching Leah Remini’s expose show about the Church of Scientology. Now I don’t know any scientologists, but I can understand why people join that cult and remain in it even though its leadership is abusive. It’s the same reason people join any church: their looking for connection and community and shared belief system about God and the afterlife. They’re looking for certainty. They’re hoping someone more educated than them can answer their questions about God.
