“Captured” Update…And More

It’s fascinating when people tell me they’ve listened to “Captured” for the first time. I’ve lived with those songs for close to a year, so they almost seems like old news to me. I keep having to remind myself that the work related to this project has really only just begun.

I’ve been exploring ways to share “Captured.” A couple of months ago, I did a small listening event at which I told the stories behind the songs. I sang a few weeks ago at an open mic, which was a lot of fun. I was also recently asked to sing a set at a fundraiser {which was quite the experience as it was an outdoor event, and snowing a bit}. Later this month, I’ll be introducing the project at a house concert, at which I’ll be performing the songs live. {More details coming soon about house concerts and how you can have one!}

Meanwhile, I’ve continued writing. If you’ve kept up with my blog, you’ve heard two new songs: “You Are Loved” and “No Words To Tell.” Interestingly, the more I write, the darker the songs. There’s a contrast between “Captured” and what I’m working on now. “Captured” is a {my} story of redemption. All the songs reflect that. Now, it’s as if I’m going back to reveal the darker side of life.

I’m finding that I really like telling stories through lyrics. {It really shouldn’t surprise me; story songs have always been my favorite.} Some of the new songs have a strong thread of redemption running through them, while others only offer a faint hope. After all, to paraphrase my writing partner…that’s what happens in life: not everybody chooses redemption. I’m excited to eventually present raw, gritty, dark, real-world-scenario types of songs.

Some of the songs are complete, and several are in the works. At this point, I’m not writing for an album; I’m just writing as the words come. However, the songs all seem to be working together. I’m hoping there’ll be an opportunity to record some of them in the coming months. Until then, I’ll be sharing a few of them at live events.

I’m working on a couple of updates to the website, and hope to have new information available soon.

Thank you for all the encouraging comments, messages, emails and notes. Y’all have no idea how much they mean to me. I’m thankful for such awesome readers and listeners!
