“Daughters”

There’s a spark in her eyes

I want to cement it in mine

Chatters of dreams far away

Entertain them, I pray

* * * * *

Blonde streaks dance in the sun

Her fingers reshaping ponytail undone

I no longer brush her morning hair

Instead, I sneak a reminiscent stare

* * * * *

Courage and strength outweigh her fear

Wasn’t I rocking her to sleep last year?

Quiet resolve appears fierce on her face

I know her heart is filled with hidden grace
