On this final day of Showing Up, I want to share a sneak peek of a song I co-wrote. There’s no release date at this time, but I thought it was an appropriate ending to these 31 days.

“Happy Place” was born out of my questioning, frustrations with, and breaking away from religion. It’s about this spiritual journey of awakening I’m traveling. I hope you enjoy it!

“Happy Place”

by

R. Gilbert & G. Vinson

I always walked the narrow line
Didn’t have the courage to be one of a kind
Blended in with the stiff-necked crowd
Til my righteous deeds made me too damn proud

Going to my happy place
Gonna live like there’s no mistakes
Ditchin’ the diff’rence between right and wrong
Gonna go where I can sing my song

I stumbled from the good-girl cliff
Torn and tattered from the shameful trip
Climbed my way out of that big, black hole
Nothin’ left but my tainted soul

Going to my happy place
Gonna live like there’s no mistakes
Ditchin’ the diff’rence between right and wrong
Gonna go where I can sing my song

I had no choice
I found my voice
When I gave myself a chance
I fin’lly feel
I can finally be real
I’m ready to wander a wider path

Leavin’ the lonely heartache behind
Changin’ my steps to see what I’ll find
Searchin’ for rhythms and rhymes of my own
Doubt I’ll ever make my way back home

Going to my happy place
Gonna live like there’s no mistakes
Ditchin’ the diff’rence between right and wrong
Gonna go where I can sing my song

  1. Rebekah! I’ve never heard any of your stuff before. Wow! I know there’s much depth and texture to your words and, knowing a bit of your story through your blogs, this song speaks volumes. Thanks so much for giving us a sneak peek (or listen) to the song. You are a tremendously gifted lyricist and vocalist and, I’m pretty sure, a great musician (not sure what you played on the song). Again, I love George and know that you cherish working with him. Blessings as you go where you can sing your song. Shalom, sister.

    • Thank you, Garry. I didn’t play on the song. That was all George and Charles Harnach. I only play enough to piddle. :) Yes, George and I worked well together. You can listen to my EP, Captured, in the Listening Room. Just scroll to the top and click on the Listening Room tab.

  2. I love this !!!!!!!!!!!! I pray that we all are able to truly find that happy place where we can sing loudly the song give to us.
